Namuwaya Kibedi - Associate

Namuwaya is an associate with Cooke, Young & Keidan.  She acts on a range of commercial litigation work, and has a particular interest in banking and finance litigation.  She has represented a broad range of clients including FTSE 250 companies and high-net worth individuals.

Namuwaya has recently acted on high-value financial disputes connected with the financial crisis.   One case arose following the unexpected performance of interest rate hedging products which resulted in her client suffering significant losses.  Another matter concerned substantial portfolio losses suffered by individuals pursuant to the actions of an investment management company. 

Namuwaya has also advised on insolvency, fraud, intellectual property, defamation and real estate matters.  She managed a long running breach of contract claim for a respected theatre company and helped negotiate a successful settlement.  She also acted for a nationwide retailer in respect of a passing off action which commenced following the unlawful exploitation of an unregistered trade mark.  She has received recognition from counsel and clients for her effectiveness as a lawyer. 

Namuwaya has also acted on a pro bono basis for the Royal Courts of Justice Advice Bureau.

Background

Namuwaya read law at the University of Reading.  She subsequently gained a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice with Commendation from the College of Law.  After completing her formal academic studies, Namuwaya trained in the City of London office of Maclay Murray & Spens LLP, one of Scotland’s leading law firms.  Following her qualification as a solicitor, she joined Cooke, Young & Keidan in October 2011.
