Lydia Danon - Associate

Lydia is an associate with Cooke, Young & Keidan. She is a commercial litigator with a broad experience of acting in high-value, complex business disputes and alternative dispute resolution. Lydia has acted for corporate clients,(including AIM listed and Blue Chip), insurers in the London Market and private individuals in claims relating to breach of contract, shareholder and partnership and LLP disputes, commercial insurance policies, breach of trust, professional negligence and contentious probate.

Lydia's has a particular interest in political risk and trade credit insurance. She recently successfully acted for insurers in the London Market defending a complex and high value ($15 million) claim brought by an international bank relating to a Kenyan oil scandal. 

Lydia also has valuable experience in shareholder, partnership and LLP disputes and has acted on behalf of members of law firms and investment management funds.

Cases of note

North Shore Ventures Ltd v Anstead Holdings Inc and Ors [2010] EWHC 1485 (Ch); [2011] EWCA Civ 230 [2012] EWCA Civ 11;  Lydia acted for Russian clients in the High Court and Court of Appeal in respect of a multi-party action valued at $55 million in respect of the alleged breaches of a loan agreement and personal guarantees.  The claim included issues arising in jurisdictions as far apart as Russia, Switzerland, the BVI and Nevis.  

Lydia has experience in high value and complex fraud claims involving responding to freezing injunctions, serach and seizure orders and contempt applications.  She has acted for a Defendant in proceedings relating to one of the largest series of fraud claims brought before the High Court (approximately $3 billion when the claims are taken together); JSC BTA Bank v Solodchenko and Ors.

Lydia also has experience of mediations and arbitrations (particularly in the LCIA).

Background 

Prior to joining Cooke, Young & Keidan as an associate in March 2009, Lydia completed her training contract with Iliffes Booth Bennett. Lydia studied History at Newcastle University before spending one year teaching English at a leading Chinese University and travelling through Asia and Africa. She undertook her Graduate Diploma in Law and Legal Practice Course at the College of Law in London.

Lydia is a member of the Law Society of England and Wales. She is also a member of the Young International Arbitration Group, the Young Fraud Lawyers Association and the London Solicitors Litigation Association.
